Furrowing purple garlic

We come back to one of our favourite crops, although we haven’t grown them since 2014. Purple garlic is the most important crop in our area and as it has a very interesting profitability and therefore the quality of the product has to be maximum. On this occasion we visited our friend Julián de la Fuente, a good farmer who has an important garlic farm... and if you watch the video, you will find a first class machinery.

We were interested to see Julián at work, as he was using the John Deere auto guidance with RTK signal and the J. Quílez furrower, which is a local implement manufacturer... As well as the 6110R which is always an eye-catching tractor. Working with the auto guidance in the middle of garlic rows at 45cm is always very fascinating to watch. On the other hand, seeing the J. Quiléz furrower is also interesting because it is designed with three vibrocultivators per furrow and above all because the chassis has a system that can be moved as you work through the use of a hydraulic system in order to correct possible errors, especially on slopes where the tractor, due to its narrow wheels, can suffer from slipping.

Therefore, the work of furrowing is extremely quick, easy and comfortable... we remember when we were children that some farmers used to do it, for example, with Astoa tractors... we have evolved a lot. 

The aim of this work is to eliminate weeds mechanically (some phytosanitary treatments with selective herbicides can also be carried out) and to prepare the ground so that all the garlic heads are well covered. Afterwards, drip irrigation will be installed and the field will not need to be moved until the garlic is harvested.

Massey Ferguson Xperience Tour

Last week we had the bad luck that it rained on the same day as the visit to the MF Xperience Tour event, so we couldn't live the eXperience 100%. This is the event that we are going to describe below which was really great and is 100% recommendable if you want to get to know the range of products Massey Ferguson offers to Spanish farmers. 

In 2018, French manufacturer Massey Ferguson launched the MF Xperience demotour, which in 2022 will tour 8 European countries, including Spain, with 24 events. In our country 4 events have been held: Tafalla, Benavente, Don Benito and Albacete. This is an event organised by Massey Ferguson Spain but with the support of the dealers in the areas where it is held, as it is a private event that dealers take advantage of to meet with their customers and farmers interested in the brand. These events allow direct contact with specialists, which is always appreciated. 

The event, which lasts about 4 hours, starts with a lunch for all the guests. This is followed by a comprehensive presentation of the entire Massey Ferguson product range, explained by the brand's product manager. After that, there are 8 different workshops where specialists explain all the details of each of the models of tractors, combine harvesters and forage machinery that Massey Ferguson manufactures. In parallel there are several stands where professional talks on machinery maintenance, precision farming, financing and Trelleborg tyres. 

Our experience at the event was very rewarding despite the fact it was a very rainy afternoon and we were not able to complete all the planned activities. It was a very well organised event where the customer can get a lot of details of all the machines with a very friendly and direct treatment of the product specialists... we recommend it to all of you for the next edition. If we talk a little about the machines on display, the one that caught our attention was the new 8S Series... a tractor that surprised us very much. The changes made to the revamped 5S Series have also resulted in a very complete tractor and the gigantic IDEAL 9 combine harvester always leaves us open-mouthed. We look forward to seeing them all working in the field and more specifically in our "Tests on Field" section.
