We visited our great friend Alberto in his Village (Turégano - Segovia) and he showed his new universal cultivator to us. The dealer of his area lends this tool to him in order to test it with the aim of deciding or refusing to buy it. We could carry out some tests on a triticale stubble which was harvested to silage a few weeks before (as you can see in this post about that) and, then, he fertilized with slurry some days after harvesting (he has a farm with 400 calves... we are going to speak about his farm in a future post).
The universal cultivator is the Horsch Terrano 4 FX, it has 13 tines and 4m of working width. The tractor used was one of his Valtra (it is the T180) and, in fact, it worked really fine with this cultivator (its weight is over 2,700kg). We have to say the soil was not very hard... he will have to test it on other harder stubble to know if his tractor is truly appropriate for this work and cultivator. The cultivator is awesome, the materials used and the workmanship is impressive, almost maintenance-free, TerraGrip tines with a release force of 350 kg are especially recommended for stony and rocky soils, depth adjustment is made without tools via spacer clips on the front of the push rods... definitely, the work done is really good. Robustness is the best word to define this cultivator. Unfortunately, its price is a handicap for small farmers like us.
After these tests, Alberto decided to buy it... Congratulations!!
